Quick answer: At the time of writing (October 2026), DStv has five main packages. On a satellite decoder they cost R150 (Starter), R339 (Select), R479 (Sports), R500 (Movies & Series) and R979 (Premium) a month. On DStv Stream the same packages cost R99, R299, R399, R500 and R799. If you were on Access, Family or Compact, DStv moved you across automatically and your price stayed the same.
DStv packages prices Langebaan families ask us about changed more in September 2026 than in the last 15 years. The old names are gone, new ones arrived, and there are now two prices for most packages. In this guide we clear up the myths first, then give you the facts, then help you pick the right package for your home.
DStv packages prices in 2026: the myths we hear on call-outs
On 17 September 2026, DStv launched a new line-up on satellite and on DStv Stream. Since then, almost every job we do in Langebaan town and Myburgh Park ends with the same question at the decoder. "What am I actually paying for now?"
Most of the confusion about DStv packages prices comes from four myths. Here they are, with the facts next to them.
Myth 1: "My Compact package was cancelled"
Fact: it was renamed and given more channels. DStv moved Access customers to Starter, Family customers to Select and Compact customers to Sports. This happened automatically during September. You did not need to phone anyone or reconnect anything.
Myth 2: "The new names mean a higher debit order"
Fact: DStv says prices stay the same for customers who were moved across. Compact was R479 on satellite, and Sports is R479 on satellite. If your debit order did change, check whether a promotion ended or a fee was added to your account.
Myth 3: "R399 for Sports is the decoder price"
Fact: R399 is the Stream price. The satellite decoder price for Sports is R479. Many adverts and websites show the lower Stream figure, so people expect it on their decoder bill.
Myth 4: "Compact Plus is gone"
Fact: if you already have Compact Plus, you keep it with no change. It is just no longer sold to new customers. Premium and EasyView also stayed as they were for existing subscribers.
The facts: DStv packages prices on satellite and Stream
These are DStv's own published DStv packages prices for South Africa at the time of writing (October 2026). They come from the official DStv new packages announcement. Prices are per month.

| Package | Satellite decoder | DStv Stream | Channels | Replaced |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | R150 | R99 | 85+ | Access |
| Select | R339 | R299 | 100+ | Family |
| Sports | R479 | R399 | 115+ (17 sport) | Compact |
| Movies & Series | R500 | R500 | 115+ | New package |
| Premium | R979, or R799 on a 24-month contract | R799 | Everything in Sports and Movies & Series, plus more | Unchanged |
Why there are two prices for most packages
A satellite package runs through your dish and decoder. Stream runs over your internet on a phone, laptop or smart TV. The Stream price is lower, but you pay for data and you need a steady connection.
Movies & Series is the only package with the same R500 price on both. Always compare DStv packages prices on the same platform, or the numbers will mislead you.
The Premium 24-month option
DStv now offers Premium on a 24-month contract at R799 a month on satellite. DStv says this price includes the Access Fee. That is a good saving for a full-time household that watches all year. Read the contract terms first if you might pause DStv between holiday seasons.
What each new DStv package gives you
Here is a plain summary of what sits in each package, based on DStv's own descriptions.
- Starter: local entertainment like Wethu+, Moja Love and kykNET & Kie, plus SuperSport KICKOFF with all La Liga and selected PSL and Premier League matches.
- Select: everything in Starter, plus Mzansi Magic, every PSL game, CNN, the History Channel and all DStv kids' channels.
- Sports: everything in Select, plus every PSL, Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, all cricket, local rugby, a URC match of the week, UFC and WWE.
- Movies & Series: everything in Select, plus M-Net, kykNET, the movie channels, Discovery Channel and BBC Earth.
- Premium: everything in Sports and Movies & Series, plus Springbok rugby, all international rugby, Formula 1, tennis and golf majors.
The big change is that Sports and Movies & Series now split what Compact Plus used to mix. You choose sport or entertainment, or you pay for both in Premium.
If a decoder lost channels when the new line-up went live, it may simply need its services refreshed. Our guide on how to activate a DStv decoder walks you through it.
Key points before you pick a package
- Satellite and Stream prices are different for four of the five packages.
- Access, Family and Compact customers moved across at the same price.
- Compact Plus, Premium and EasyView customers stayed where they were.
- Springbok rugby and Formula 1 are only in Premium.
- Explora features and extra decoders can add a monthly Access Fee.
Costs that are not in the DStv package price
DStv packages prices are only one line on your bill. Here is what else a Langebaan home should budget for.

The decoder, dish and installation
The package price does not include hardware or labour. Our DStv installation cost guide explains what changes a quote at your address. On our own price list, a basic single-view installation starts from R800 and an Explora setup starts from R2,200, with equipment costs added.
If you are starting from scratch, a new DStv installation covers the dish, bracket, cabling, decoder connection and a meter-tested signal in one visit.
The Access Fee for Explora and XtraView
To record, pause and use the full Explora features, DStv charges a monthly Access Fee on most accounts. The same applies when you link a second decoder with XtraView. The Premium 24-month deal includes it. On other packages, check the current amount in MyDStv before you sign up.
Our Dual View versus XtraView guide explains the two ways to get a second TV working.
Data, if you choose Stream
Stream looks cheaper on paper. In practice, a family streaming sport every evening uses a lot of data. Fibre is not yet available everywhere along the West Coast, so work out your data cost honestly first.

We check the dish, decoder and cabling, then help you match the package to how your family watches.
Which package fits a Langebaan household?
We see every kind of home here, from full-time families to holiday houses that stand empty for months. The right package depends far more on how you live than on DStv packages prices alone.
Matching DStv packages prices to the way you watch
- Retired couples at Langebaan Country Estate: Select or Movies & Series usually covers the news, series and kykNET they watch most.
- Football families in Myburgh Park, Saldanha or Vredenburg: Sports gives every PSL, Premier League and Champions League match for R479 on satellite.
- Rugby households: only Premium carries the Springboks, so there is no cheaper route for test matches.
- Holiday homes at Club Mykonos or Calypso Beach: Starter keeps the decoder active at low cost, then upgrade before the family arrives.
- Granny flats and guest rooms: a second decoder on XtraView is often cheaper than a second full subscription.
Holiday homes and the upgrade trick
Many owners on the Shelley Point side and around the lagoon only visit in December and over Easter. You can change your package through DStv's self-service channels, so drop to Starter in winter and upgrade before you drive up. Avoid long contracts if you plan to do this.
For rental owners, our guide to TV for lagoon-side holiday rentals covers making the system easy for guests.
Satellite or Stream for your home?
Satellite does not need the internet to show live TV, which matters on farms outside town and in homes with capped data. Stream suits a second screen, or a flat with strong fibre. We compare both in detail in DStv Stream versus a decoder.
Your package is only as good as your signal
The best DStv packages prices mean little if the signal is weak. Paying R979 for Premium means nothing if the picture breaks up during the rugby. On the West Coast, that is a real risk.
The south-easter is strong here, and salt air eats cheap connectors. A dish that was a few degrees off on a calm day will start dropping channels when the wind picks up. This is why our DStv installation in Langebaan always ends with a signal meter reading, not just a picture on the screen.
Local tip: If your channels disappeared after the September change, do not assume it is the package. First go to MyDStv and refresh your services. If that does not fix it, the cause is usually signal or wiring.
Thinking about recording and catch up?
If the new package has you watching more series, an Explora lets you record and pause live TV. A proper DStv Explora installation includes the Smart LNB, recording setup and a walk-through of every feature.
The decoder itself is a separate cost from your package. For current hardware figures, see Explora and Explora Ultra prices.
Checklist before you compare DStv packages prices
Use these steps before you upgrade, downgrade or sign up. They take ten minutes, and comparing DStv packages prices this way can save you hundreds of rand a year.

- Open MyDStv and write down your current package, platform and every fee on the account.
- List the three channels or sports your home truly watches every week.
- Find the cheapest package that has all three, using the satellite price if you have a decoder.
- Check whether you need Explora features or a second TV, as these may add an Access Fee.
- Decide if a contract suits you, or if you want to change the package between seasons.
- Check your dish, cables and decoder before blaming the package for missing channels.
If you get stuck on step six, our Langebaan DStv installers can test the signal and tell you plainly whether the problem is the account or the equipment.
We cover Langebaan, Saldanha, Vredenburg and the wider West Coast, and we will happily talk through the options with you before any work starts.

DStv packages prices: questions Langebaan homes ask
What are the DStv packages prices in 2026?
At the time of writing (October 2026), satellite prices are R150 for Starter, R339 for Select, R479 for Sports, R500 for Movies & Series and R979 for Premium. Premium is R799 on a 24-month contract. Stream prices are R99, R299, R399, R500 and R799.
Did DStv packages prices go up when Compact became Sports?
No. DStv says customers who moved from Access, Family and Compact keep paying the same price. They also get more channels. If your bill changed, check for an ended promotion or a new fee in MyDStv.
Why are DStv packages prices lower on Stream than on a decoder?
DStv packages prices on Stream are lower because Stream runs over your own internet connection, so you pay for the data yourself. Satellite uses a dish and decoder and does not need the internet for live TV. That is why four of the five packages have two different prices.
Can I change or downgrade my DStv package online?
Yes. Since 17 September 2026 you can upgrade, sign up or change your package through DStv's self-service channels, such as MyDStv. Check any contract terms first, especially on the Premium 24-month deal.
What happened to DStv Compact Plus?
Existing Compact Plus customers stay on it with no change. It is no longer available to new customers. New subscribers choose between Sports, Movies & Series or Premium instead.
Does the package price include the Explora Access Fee?
Only on the Premium 24-month contract, where DStv says the Access Fee is included. On other packages, Explora features and XtraView can add a monthly Access Fee. Check the current amount in MyDStv before you decide.
