There are few things more frustrating than the picture freezing right as the weather turns. On the West Coast, where a sea mist can roll in within minutes, it’s one of the most common calls we get.
What is “rain fade”?
Satellite signals weaken as they pass through heavy rain and cloud. A perfectly aligned dish has plenty of signal margin to ride this out. A dish that’s even a degree or two off, however, is already losing signal on a clear day — so the moment weather arrives, it tips over the edge and the picture drops.
How we fix it properly
The lasting fix is rarely “wait for the rain to stop.” We re-check alignment to peak signal, inspect the LNB and connectors for corrosion (salt air is brutal here), and replace any weathered cabling. Done right, your signal rides out everything but the very worst storms.
Chasing recurring signal problems? Our DStv installation Langebaan team also handles DSTV signal repairs across the West Coast, from LNB faults to full realignment.
